HOME HEALTH AGENCIES
Industry News
By I. Guzman, Marketing Director, Carecenta
On October 31, 2019, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued (CMS-1711-FC) a final rule with comment period which is a routine update to the 2020 home health payment rates. The CMS also announced final policies for implementation of the permanent home infusion therapy benefit for the 2021 calendar year.
Of note to HHAs is modification to CMS regulation which previously only allowed therapists to administer maintenance therapy under the Medicare home health benefit. The new modification allows therapy assistants to administer maintenance therapy (in accordance with state requirements) providing HHAs increased staffing options.
Back Story: Comments received by the CMS from the 2018 HH PPS led to the update, “This change is consistent with regulations for skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) where therapist assistants can perform maintenance therapy.”
